History

There once was a little smithy lying close to Erkebispegården – the Arch Bishop's Palace - on the slope down towards St. Olav's spring and the river Nid. We don't know for certain when the smithy was built, but it is depicted on engravings from the end of the 18th century. The smithy played an important role during the seven years war from 1807 to 1814. Today this building houses one of Trondheim's most distinctive restaurants, Grenaderen.

Like øst for Grenaderen lå Kongsgårdens hage, angivelig anlagt 1766.
